Marine Conservation/Education

"When one tugs at a single thing in nature he finds it attached to the rest of the world..." ~John Muir

 A note from Mermaid Avalon:

One of the most rewarding avenues of being a children's entertainer is the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue by way of stories, puppets, and other artistic mediums. Preserving our Earth is a joyful work!

I use my mermaid personae not only as a vehicle for entertainment, but also as a way to inspire children and adults to act locally and think globally! Using a canvas shopping bag, picking up litter, reusing, recycling, and conserving water are all ways that any household can  pitch in! Every person does make a difference!

Visiting daycares, preschools or elementary schools to speak informally about what children can do to help our Ocean was one of the main creative driving forces which led me to decide upon taking up this line of work (and play!) Sea life puppets bring my interactive stories to life as children of all ages delight in the underlying message-- I matter and I can help!

Funds collected by way of a "tip jar" at public appearances are always donated to a Marine Conservation Organization. Your small contribution will go a long way in assisting the following groups:

The NOAA Marine Debris Program (MDP) supports national and international efforts to research, prevent, and reduce the impacts of marine debris.

Science based solutions to tackle the biggest threats to our Oceans

An international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization whose mission is to end the destruction of habitat and the slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

  2. I read the article "A Mermaid's Tale" in the Morning Call recently and was enchanted! I'm so happy for you and hope you continue to find and share your joy with others! Remember as you get older (as I'm a chubby 57 year old, retired "warrior woman" who fought in armor with rattan sword and shield for 9 years, funny because in real life I'm basically a pacifist)- that older mermaids will be lovely also and help others learn to age gracefully and without fear :)

A wonderful book to share with fellow "mermaids" is- "A Survival Guide for Landlocked Mermaids" by Margot Datz. I bought it at a shop at Rehobeth Beach but I bet you could find it other places, even online and you'd love it.
